The first Saturday of SXSW 2009 was the Bike Hugger Mobile Social Ride. It was pretty short, fun ride around Austin starting at couple block away from Mellow Johnny’s bike shop. One girl had bike made from bamboo and horn. No one seemed to mind the ride was short since it ended with free bar-b-que, beer and a raffle ticket for chance to win one of two bikes available (also an apple tv and a bunch crumpler bags). Mine was the last number called and it was for the Madsen Cycles bucket bike.

First stop, the Draft House This thing is amazing. My dog (and iced down beer) now accompanies me on the weekly 8pm Thursday rides that meet up on the Lamar pedestrian bridge. Thursday April 9th was also the full moon ride that meets on the bridge at midnight. There must have been 300 people on that one. We made a brief appearance there on my home from the first ride. I plan on going to as many of the Thursday night social rides as possible.

First ride out with the new bike and we put it to good use. Someone was throwing away two good bike frames so we loaded them up. Time to make that double tall now.
